The second dimension
The second dimension makes the world into a flat plane. The only measurements are length and width (no height). This is the dimension that we think of as 'flat'. Images on paper are two dimensional. The traditional x-y coordinate plane system is also two-dimensional.
In the book, the two dimensional world is called 'Flatland'. Flatland is occupied by lines and a number of two dimensional shapes - triangles, squares, pentagons, and so forth. The shapes whose number of sides approaches infinite are called circles. |
